The aim of marking the World Nature Conservation Day 2020 is to raise awareness about conserving natural resources like trees, water among others.
World Nature Conservation Day is observed on July 28 every year to raise awareness about conserving nature Much of the crises facing the world like global warming, climate change, flooding and drought are the result of lack of conservation efforts and wasteful use of natural resources.
New Delhi: Growing population, unbridled industrialisation and extraction of natural resources has caused massive environmental damage and heavy burden on the earth.
Much of the crises facing the world like global warming, climate change, flooding and drought are the result of lack of conservation efforts and wasteful use of natural resources.
In order to raise awareness about nature and ensure sustainable life on earth, World Nature Conservation Day is observed on July 28 every year. The aim of marking the World Nature Conservation Day is to save our trees, water and other resources.
- Reducing dependence on fossil fuels: This is the need of the hour. By reducing dependence on fuels like diesel and petrol, we can greatly help reducing carbon footprints.
- Avoid hoarding: Most of the time hoarding leads to wastage. What is required is we should buy need-based items be it food or any other thing. This will certainly reduce the wastage of resources.
- Avoiding single-use plastic: Plastic has emerged as one of the major pollutants of the environment. And single-use plastic is one of them. The single-use plastics like polythene bags not only choke our drains but also pollute the groundwater table. To protect our nature, our first priority should be to avoid single-use plastic.
- Planting trees and increasing forest cover: As we all know, trees and forests are necessary for our survival as they provide us with food and oxygen, the need of the hour is to plant more trees, and increase forest cover. Deforestation on a big scale for housing and industries are posing huge challenges for humankind in terms of global warming.
- Judicious use of water resources: Just like any other resource, water is an essential part of our life. With the sharp decline in groundwater table due to over-extraction and wastage, several cities across the world have faced an acute shortage of water. In 2018, South African city Cape Town was forced to declare 'Day Zero' to restrict the city's water supply due to shortage. The need of the hour is to avoid water wastage and preserve this precious natural resource for our future generations
